St. Stephen's Day in Ireland - Girls raise lots of Euro for Milford Hospice

Hello,

This photo might well be of interest to the Limerick Post. This photo taken the other day is of the 'Ballybricken Wren' group who went out on the Wren on St. Stephen's Day and made a donation of over €300 for Milford Hospice.

In the photo:
Standing: Sinead Grene, Laura McCarthy, Sister Phyllis Donnellan (Milford Hospice, Little Company of Mary), Shona O'Flynn and Betty Meaney (Milford Hospice). In Front: Niamh Ryan, Rachel Grene, and Jessie Ryan. The girls play the fiddle, flute, tin whistle and bodhran. It was a great day out! All of the girls are from Ballybricken, Co. Limerick, except Shona O'Flynn who is from Limerick City. Marie Ryan of Ballybricken took this photo. The girls are already planning their 2007 Wren Day fundraiser with girls and boys from the Ballybricken area. A few more pics here...they did a lot of walking (that's the traditional thing...kids walk along the road stopping by each house..the idea is that the Wren Boys are scaring away the mutinous wren who turned St Stephen in...)...I drove them only when it got dark, and we also wanted to get to some of the older people in the area, and of course to some of the pubs!
All the best,
Janet Grene
